2020: Quarantine Projects
As much as I’ve been entertained by the situational challenges lately of having to experiment with the new medium, I’m at the same time frustrated because I don’t know how to go about it right now. It’s not like I don’t have a single idea on how it can be developed. I’ve envisioned myself creating giant blanket-like wall sculpture out of metal sheets (El Anatsui) or PVC fabric over wires/bent steel rods (Lee Bontecou). But the dissatisfying fact is that they are inexecutable right now in terms of time and environment. Should find means to incorporate this sense of helplessness and submissiveness into my pieces.
part 1.
Industrial entanglement in the midst of something
Materials–cement, wire, pvc fabric, pvc cables–interact and overwhelm one another
Capture the impossible moment, the inscrutable language of the forces
A paused, fixed state of the incomplete, of an ongoing phenomenon
Flexible in its process, while the fixed product is noticeably rigid
The idea of meditative control arises in the art-making process
Reflects the contemplative attitude towards the complexities
Thoughtful reduction of the complexities in the world
Those interlacing themselves with the monolith
Imperfect conflation of the ideals
